Of Blood and Lightning Author Micki Janae to present at New Voices, New Rooms Conference
Author Micki Janae, whose debut novel, OF BLOOD AND LIGHTNING will be published by Three Rooms Press in October, was selected to present at A Moveable Feast on August 11, part of the New Voices, New Rooms conference in Arlington, VA.
According to Southern Independent Alliance Booksellers (SIBA) Executive Director, Linda-Marie Barrett, “A Moveable Feast is our conference’s final event and beloved by booksellers. Authors will have 2 minutes at the beginning of our event to deliver an elevator pitch on their book to the audience. Authors will then rotate every 5-7 minutes to speak to a new group of booksellers.” At the event, Janae will sign advance copies of her forthcoming book.
Janae’s first novel is a YA fantasy featuring Ophelia, a 17-year-old Black teenager, inherits the powers of the Greek gods, along with five other diverse teens, and soon they embark on a mission from the Vessel of Destiny to find the missing Fates, restore the Codex, and save the world.
OF BLOOD AND LIGHTNING has received glowing early critical praise. Foreword Reviews raves that the “engrossing epic novel” “sizzles with excitement.” Kirkus Reviews proclaims, “Janae’s writing style is compelling … A fast-paced debut.”
With OF BLOOD AND LIGHTNING, author Micki Janae is on a mission. Tired of growing up with scant representation of young Black women in fantasy, Janae took matters into her own hands to craft this first book of The Godender Saga, creating a compelling novel full of intricate world-building, electrifying storytelling, and diverse characters. Currently, Janae is studying at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, where she continues her passion for literature and explores visual creativity as a budding filmmaker with an eye on expanding the voices of young Black women in both fields. Currently Micki Janae lives in Birmingham, AL.
