3RP Celebrates National Poetry Month 2024
by Julia Diorio
Poetry is one of the purest forms of human expression within writing. The beautiful thing about it is that no one can tell you what you write is not poetry. Poets have existed in every century, every country and every time since before we knew what poetry was. Emily Dickinson described poetry as making her “whole body so cold no fire can ever warm [her]”. Edgar Allen Poe said that “poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words.”
Here at Three Rooms Press, we celebrate all types of writing and expression — one of those happening to be poetry!
Some of our most celebrated titles include:
- FULL MOON STAGES, a poem written over 50 years—with a new verse added every full moon—by legendary Living Theatre founder and actress Judith Malina;
- MALANGA CHASING VALLEJO, translations of the poetry of renowned Peruvian poet César Vallejo by poet, photographer and Warhol associate Gerard Malanga;
- ON EARTH AND IN HELL, a bilingual (German/English) edition of the earliest poetry of renegade Austrian author Thomas Bernhard; and
- ATRIUM, the award-winning first poetry collection by revered Palestinian-American author Hala Alyan.
Both of our 3RP co-founders have also released poetry collections recently, including:
- AWE AND OTHER WORDS LIKE WOW, by Kat Georges, poems in which she consciously searches for joy in a world of growing darkness; and
- LIFE IN THE PAST LANE, by Peter Carlaftes, who offers poems that are both daring and discreet, ranging from full frontal assaults on political and religious cults to tender, discerning, intimate studies of the challenges of self-faith, relationships and maintaining quiet equilibrium in the noisy space of modern life.
Three Rooms Press began as a publisher of poetry before expanding into its current, largely prose releases. Explore all of our earlier poetry releases and enjoy a 25% discount using the code POETRY2024 at our complete poetry collection here.
Encouraging creativity is an important part of growing as a writer and an editor. Celebrating National Poetry Month is just an excuse to do that on another level! We hope you take April as an excuse to read more 3RP poetry!
