DISASTERAMA! Named a 2020 Lambda Literary Award Finalist
As seen on Oprah.com . . .
We are thrilled to offer a hearty congratulations to Alvin Orloff, whose memoir Disasterama!: Adventures in the Queer Underground 1977-1997 was named a Lambda Literary Award finalist this morning in the Gay Memoir/Biography category! The Lambda Literary Awards celebrate the best in LGBTQ literature every year, and Alvin is in some pretty heady company—just check out the complete list of nominees in the category:
- The Amphitheater of the Dead, Guy Hocquenghem, translated by Max Fox, Guillotine
- DISASTERAMA! Adventures in the Queer Underground 1977-1997, Alvin Orloff, Three Rooms Press
- How We Fight for Our Lives, Saeed Jones, Simon & Schuster
- I.M., Isaac Mizrahi, Flatiron Books
- In the Shadow of the Bridge, Joseph Caldwell, Delphinium Books
- An Indefinite Sentence: A Personal History of Outlawed Love and Sex, Siddharth Dube, Atria Books
- Jimmy Neurosis, James Oseland, Ecco
- The Light Years, Chris Rush, Farrar, Straus and Giroux
But wait . . . did you happen to notice that Three Rooms Press is ALSO in some heady company? Can a fiercely independent press hold its own against the big 5 publishers (whose subsidiaries published ALL the other books in the category except for the translation)? You betcha. Pat on the back!
But back to the LAMMIES: June 8th is the date of the 32nd annual Awards Ceremony at NYU’s Skirball Center in New York City. The event, hosted by Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang, will celebrate finalists and announce winners in all 24 categories. For more information about the event and to purchase tickets, click here.
Congratulations, Alvin!!
SIDEBAR: Two Three Rooms Press authors are ALSO Lambda Awards Finalists this year! Julia Watts, author of the fabulous LGBTQ Young Adult novel QUIVER, is nominated in the LGBTQ Anthology category for the book she co-edited with Jeff Mann, LGBTQ Fiction and Poetry from Appalachia. And Greg Herren, editor and contributing author of the riveting anthology FLORIDA HAPPENS, is a finalist for Royal Street Reveillon in the Gay Mystery category. Congratulations!
In other awards news, EVERYTHING GROWS by Aimee Herman and NIRVANA IS HERE by Aaron Hamburger have been named Finalists for the Foreword INDIES. Read more.
